If you’re a new video editor or videographer, Corel VideoStudio Pro X7 is an ideal place to learn the basics. That’s because Corel has gone to a great deal of trouble to make this application accessible to users of all skill levels. This video editing application breaks down the editing workflow into three simple steps: capture, edit and share.

The capture step is where you collect all the elements of your final video into the moviemaker software. Since all of your video footage, audio files and images are most likely scattered across a number of devices, so this could take a while. Fortunately, Corel VideoStudio Pro X7 is able to import media from nearly any device that you can connect to your computer. Smartphones, external drives, DSLRs and more are all recognized by the application and will easily import all compatible media. If you can install this software, you will be able to import nearly any media you own.

The next step – editing – is where you’re going to be spending most of your time. It’s also the step that can be fraught with frustration for beginners. Corel understands this and keeps the editing workspace as spacious and clean as possible. All of the features and tools are well organized so that they can be found easily when you need them. The interface as a whole is also quite streamlined; the entire enterprise is a point-and-click operation. Like any video editor software, it takes a few hours to master, but one you do it is quite simple to use.

The share step is where your finished product goes to be launched from your computer to the rest of the world. Corel has also made this as simple as possible. All you have to do is select how you want your video to be seen. Whether online, on a disc or saved as a simple computer file, you’ll have no problems getting your project out there.

The workspace for this video editing software provides two modes: storyboard and timeline. Storyboard shows an image for each clip, making it easy to quickly see an overview of all of the scenes you've included. The timeline provides detailed information such as audio tracks, transitions, special effects and text.

In the timeline view, you can trim and split clips so that only the portions you want stay in your movie. With VideoStudio Pro X7, you can also perform batch edits, which means you can edit multiple items at the same time. When you edit your video clips, you can do so with peace of mind because this video editing software saves the changes under another name so the original stays unedited.

VideoStudio Pro X7 enables you to adjust the volume, stretch the track duration, fade in or out, alter the sound with the surround sound mixer, adjust stereo channels and apply audio filters to those channels. When it comes to images, VideoStudio imports photos from a number of different formats to create a photo slideshow or customized menus. You can add a text overlay to any image.

Two tools that play with time and create fun effects are the stop-motion and time-lapse effects. The stop-motion feature on VideoStudio allows you to make animated movies with just a series of photographs. The time-lapse effect creates a unique effect from footage. The application removes a few of the frames and speeds up the video. This is a useful effect if you have video and want to show progression, such as a flower growing or the stars moving.

With Corel VideoStudio, you don't have to worry about your computer slowing down when you're editing movies in HD. Not only does this application use Smart Proxy technology, but it also incorporates technology from Nvidia, which improves the processing speed of the application. Having these options for HD and 3D editing makes a huge difference.

The whole point of making a video with movie making software is so that an audience can see it. As mentioned earlier, Corel VideoStudio Pro X7 makes this easy. The application has several avenues to get your creation in front of an audience’s eyeballs.

The fastest and most common way to share videos is by uploading them to popular social networks such as Facebook and YouTube. VideoStudio enables you to upload to both of these websites from within the application. It also allows you to upload your finished projects to Flickr or your personal website. This is a handy feature because it bypasses the need to export a separate file and manually upload it through the services’ web interface.

Of course, there are times when you want a stand-alone file that’s playable on your computer or other devices such as smartphones and tablets. The export options found in this movie editing application cover all the bases, no matter which device you prefer to watch your movie on.

Finally, there are the physical media production options. VideoStudio has authoring capabilities for both DVD and Blu-ray. Most computers can burn DVDs natively, but it’s likely that you’ll have to purchase a separate Blu-ray burner in order to make that kind of disc.
